Adam James Harold Holloway (born
July 29 1965 in
Faversham,
Kent) is a
British politician and is the
Conservative MP for
Gravesham.
Early life
He was schooled at
Cranleigh School, Surrey. He was educated at
Magdalene College, Cambridge where he was awarded a
MA in
Social and Political Sciences and
Imperial College London where he earned an
MBA. Before entering
parliament, he served in the
British Army with the
Grenadier Guards and worked as an investigative
journalist with
ITN,
World in Action,
Panorama and the
Sunday Times. During his military career he saw active combat in the Gulf War.
Parliamentary career
He was elected in the
2005 General Election for the
Kent constituency of
Gravesham, defeating the
Labour minister,
Chris Pond by just 654 votes, acquiring one of the largest swings from Labour to Conservative in the country at 4.9%. This was the first time since the
Second World War that Gravesham (or its predecessor, the
Gravesend constituency) hadn't been held by the party of government.
He made his maiden speech on
June 28,
2005. He also spoke alongside U.S. Congressman
John Shimkus to students on the campus of
Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) on 15 September, 2006.
